Key findings

  • >Reported crime is 2.8× the average NZ area unit, the 12th highest of 46 area units in Hamilton (the Hamilton average is 2.7×).
  • >It's improving: reports fell 16.3% in the latest 12 months compared with the year before.
  • >Burglary is 28.3% of reports here versus 20.2% nationally. For a home, that matters more than the headline number.
  • >At least 72% of reports are at homes, sections, garages or sheds. This is mainly residential crime, not a shopping strip inflating the count.
  • >Close by, Claudelands (1.9 km away) runs at 1.4×, so it may be worth comparing if you're open on location.
  • >Hamilton Central (2.1 km away) is 23.7×. If you'll work, shop or go out there, look it up separately.
  • >Reports peak 1pm–4pm (20.2% of reports) and on Mondays. Visit the street around then, not just at the open home.

Questions about the report

What is a suburb crime report?

A PDF that puts reported crime around one New Zealand address in context. It compares the area with the six nearest suburbs, the city and the NZ average, breaks down burglary and other crime at homes, shows when crime happens, lists recent local crime news and suggests questions to ask before you commit. It costs $49 NZD.

Where does the data come from?

NZ Police victimisation data: 1,377,848 reported victimisations from Feb 2022 to Jun 2026, aggregated to Stats NZ area units. Local news is checked by hand against NZ Police releases and major NZ news sites.

How is it different from the free CrimeCheck lookup?

The free lookup shows the headline numbers for one area. The report compares that area with its neighbours and the rest of the city, explains what the numbers mean for a home, adds hand-checked local news and questions to ask, and comes as a PDF you can keep or share.

How long does it take?

Your report arrives as a PDF within 3 working days of payment. After you order, we email you a secure payment link. Nothing is charged when you submit the order form.

Can it tell me whether a particular house has been burgled?

No. NZ Police publish crime by area unit, not by address, so every address in an area unit shares the same figures. The report suggests questions to ask the agent, landlord and neighbours about the property itself.

Does it tell me whether a suburb is safe?

It shows how much crime is reported and how that compares with nearby areas and New Zealand as a whole. It doesn't label places safe or unsafe. Areas with shops, transport or nightlife always report more, so the report shows what kind of crime it is and where it happens.

Is it useful if I'm renting?

Yes. It shows whether burglary is common and when the street is busiest, and suggests what to ask the landlord about locks, lighting and parking, and your insurer about contents cover.

Does it replace a LIM or a building inspection?

No. A LIM covers council records and a building inspection covers the house. This report covers reported crime in the area around it. Use it alongside both.

Reports compare areas using aggregated public NZ Police data. They are not an official assessment of any place, business or person, and not advice to buy or rent. See our terms and privacy notice.
